Been re-reading the Lyraverse lately, and after moving on to La Belle Sauvage you can see that it is yet another example of how much more slow paced and uneventful modern fiction is, in any medium. About 250 pages in and so much more happens in the same span in any HDM book compared to LBS.

This is the most "I'm a single man in his 30s" thing you can possibly do. One, if you want to meet women by joining a dance class, join a hip-hop dance class, that's where the women are. Two, if you don't like something, don't do it to try and meet women. Fuck's sake

This is a terrible comparison, because calculators have destroyed my ability to do almost any mathematics including basic arithmetic in my head. Pretty much any piece of technology that does work for you that you could be capable of doing yourself makes you less competent.
