Hey #bluesky! I'm back on here (after having survived my Ph.D. candidacy exams) anyway, what did I miss?

My advisor, lost NEH funding on important research projects meant to highlight the history of enslaved Africans and their descendants. Targeted grants were centered on the history of today's minority groups. Why should we believe that this wasn't a willful and targeted action?

Several international students have had their VISAS revoked here at MSU. These are dystopian times indeed...everyone should be furious about this.

Headed to VA this weekend for a conference on Data-Informed methods for slavery studies. Let's learn to use technology to remember those who labored and suffered, with little mention in history!

You, sir, understood the assignment, unlike much of the mainstream news. Walk away from tyranny, keep your head held high & your conscience clean. You're the definition of a good person with integrity.

As a current graduate student at an R1 University, I can say that this funding freeze screws my colleagues and I over.

We're supposed to pretend like everything is fine with this asshole in power?

The look of pure shock when I tell people that I'm a historian of slavery... and they always ask: "Why??" And I always reply "someone's got to do it!"

This year is starting to look eerily similar to the plot to 1984

Wow. Just wow. To read these words from David Maraniss. This is how bad things have gotten.
The Washington Post editorial this morning essentially equating Biden's questionable pardons with Trump's outrageous Jan. 6 pardons was unconscionable. The newspaper I've been part of for 48 years has utterly lost its soul.

to recap:
— Trump was *for* the TikTok ban
— which the GOP Congress passed
— and the GOP Supreme Court upheld
— and even though Biden said he wouldn't enforce the ban, TikTok shut down anyway
— so that Trump could "save" it
— and the media fell for it
we really do live in the dumbest fucking country

Biden has issued preemptive pardons for many of Trump's supposed enemies. In a year or so, Joe's presidency will gain considerable luster.

You can believe & know Dick Cheney is a monster and still acknowledge that him coming out in support of Kamala Harris is big and that a specific segment of Reagan conservatives need to hear it and more prominent Republicans need to be doing it.

Wise bitches contain multitudes.
