It’s ironic that a nation which for decades sanctimoniously trumpeted the superiority of it’s democratic ideals around the world, while simultaneously undermining and overthrowing democratically elected governments, now faces an existential threat to those “ideals”.

you end up as Schrodinger's refugee, as the Danes call it. On one hand as a migrant you have to integrate, learn the language, raise your kids as British, etc. On the other from one day to the next you may be sent "home" to a country your kids have never known.

I understand the principle of choosing lesser evils, prioritising greater goods, compromise. [Though see ref above to others' work on the political futility here]. But I don't see what a social democratic party is for if not for offering these basic manifestations of human decency.

It will reduce the effort refugees make to integrate, something that the racists in Labour and elsewhere claim to worry about. As asylum experts point out, grasp of local policies is often not great so it probably won't reduce the flow of asylum seekers, which is presumably the hope.

My guess is that it will be counter-productive in many ways. It's another policy trying to attract Reform voters that won't come back, because Labour can always be outdone and they don't want to vote Labour whatever, and will shed further votes to the left/liberal axis.

Those of us in Scotland have had to put up with hugely biased output from BBC & Radio Scotland for years. Their anti SNP reporting is obvious (see some examples below), but apparently, it takes bias to someone in a foreign country for anyone to care. #bbc

The ability of the far right to insist that their views - trans people are lying perverts, climate change is a hoax, immigrants are all thieving, raping scum - are necessarily legitimate & must be given a hearing is already a vast victory for forms of extremism beyond the pale not long ago.
What bothers me is that impartiality and balance are two different and incompatible things. Impartiality means that you don't intervene to put your thumb on the scales. Balance necessarily requires that you intervene to artificially make every issue look like a 50/50.

Let’s put it this way: I don’t remember any other instances of the police doing a press conference specifically to blame the Crown for their investigation being rubbish and fucked, except for that time they stormed the First Minister’s house live on television. Which IMO raises questions.
