Reasons why Trump is posting videos of himself dumping poop on people:

1) He's full of shit
2) He's too scared to post a video of himself dumping the Epstein files

Have to admit I'm torn on the Newsom tweets. The Trump style of talking is nauseating even when it's used to attack Trump. Still, it's nice to force the poop-brained pundits on Fox News to have to argue that Newsom is bad because his tone is just so uncivil.

This thing looks kind of like the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but it's different because the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a force for good in the world and this is the opposite.

The circle population map app is blowing up online, so I thought I'd see the highest population I could get inside a 5km/~3mi radius circle (the default setting) for the four largest US cities:

Best analysis I've seen so far about the New York mayoral election: car ownership was the decisive split between Zohran and Cuomo.

I don't have anything against folks who live on farms but I really wish they would stop buying into stuff like this.

They're fond of telling us that we eat the food they produce, but many of them wouldn't have electricity, water, gas, or internet without the support of people in cities.

The fact that Trump wants to rebuild Penn Station doesn't change the fact that he's a deeply corrupt and sadistic autocrat, but that said, the project has some merit. It's a broken clock right twice a day situation.

I think I'd be a lot less annoyed by cars if the average car looked like this blue one here:

I think the only drawback to the new pope is that it would have just been so funny if they had gone with the guy named Pizzaballa. Like if he had been picked the dude would have had to have chosen the name Pope Pepperoni I. But a deep dish Pope from Chicago is nothing to complain about.

Would be great if not only Seattle but every big US city had plans like this.
imagine if the seattle transportation plan was this visionary.

A map of US counties with subways is making the rounds so I put one together that also shows counties with light rail (unfortunately the map doesn't let you take out the Great Lakes).

We've still got a long way to go. I'm sure a similar map of Europe would blow the US out of the water.

Even assuming a best case scenario where they drop the tariffs, wouldn't that lead to a covid-esque whiplash in shipping where trips were cut and then rapidly surged back, causing bottlenecks and driving up inflation?

We need a new pope who cares about solving the housing crisis. Someone like this guy.

Why isn't every city doing this?
April 21, 2025 at 5:29 AM
The NYT is now doing rage bait for urbanists.
Not a single time in this article glorifying the need for sprawl to address the US's affordable housing crisis is there a mention of the vast transportation costs of sprawling living patterns. Nor is there mention of the fact that sprawl is directly linked to disinvestment in urban cores.
America Needs More Sprawl to Fix Its Housing Crisis
The word has become an epithet for garish, reckless growth — but to fix the housing crisis, the country needs more of it.

Nope, definitely not going to have any negative effects on housing costs, not at all.
This is UNBEARABLE

That's really sad and all, but maybe we should be paying more attention to foot traffic on actual sidewalks instead of inside Target stores?
