This thing looks kind of like the Flying Spaghetti Monster, but it's different because the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a force for good in the world and this is the opposite.

The circle population map app is blowing up online, so I thought I'd see the highest population I could get inside a 5km/~3mi radius circle (the default setting) for the four largest US cities:

Best analysis I've seen so far about the New York mayoral election: car ownership was the decisive split between Zohran and Cuomo.

I don't have anything against folks who live on farms but I really wish they would stop buying into stuff like this.

They're fond of telling us that we eat the food they produce, but many of them wouldn't have electricity, water, gas, or internet without the support of people in cities.

I think I'd be a lot less annoyed by cars if the average car looked like this blue one here:

A map of US counties with subways is making the rounds so I put one together that also shows counties with light rail (unfortunately the map doesn't let you take out the Great Lakes).

We've still got a long way to go. I'm sure a similar map of Europe would blow the US out of the water.

We need a new pope who cares about solving the housing crisis. Someone like this guy.

Why isn't every city doing this?

That's really sad and all, but maybe we should be paying more attention to foot traffic on actual sidewalks instead of inside Target stores?

Duffy and Adams are the public transit equivalent of Dumb and Dumber. Pretty much anyone who isn't Maga will be a better mayor than this guy.

These robo delivery carts seem to be taking over everything. I have mixed feelings but at least they are better than Waymos in that it's harder to use them as an excuse to try to kill public transit.

So far this is the most compelling argument I've seen around the whole "abundance" discourse online.

America has an objective housing shortage, fixing that would make real improvements in people's lives.

Some good news out of New York. After congestion pricing took effect, car travel speeds in the congestion zone went up a reasonable amount (without becoming dangerously fast). Speeds outside the zone were unaffected. Meanwhile other data shows transit ridership is increasing.

Can't speak to all of this map but I've got family in western Mass so that part doesn't surprise me. They talk with the same "pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd" accent as folks in Boston but behind that are the same politics and convictions as lower Alabama.

Musk: "I'm going to use our kid to distract people while Big Balls kills social security lol!"

This tweet is possibly Sam Altman's greatest achievement, though I think a more realistic offer would have been to scrap the billion and just offer $9.74.

My caveat to this is that houses like this should also be allowed to be near mixed use areas and midsize multifamily units. But yes, street facing porches are clearly superior to an ugly garage facing the street.
