Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

Still on my soapbox that there’s nothing inherently swingy about a d20. It’s just that people’s aesthetics of numbers put DCs higher than they should be when using a d20.

For example, rolling a 6 or higher is about equal probability on a d20 and 2d6, but it feels worse to roll a 6 on a d20.

There will be some "Wow you can't make these people happy" sentiment but what's really happening is the Dems are beginning to reap the consequences of not really believing in anything. Choreographed maneuvers, too clever by half talking points. People have just had it

Kinda funny the Dems did the shutdown largely as a show for the base and now people are madder than before lol

Okay, Ezra is confirming that he's hearing D senators are actually plotting to cave to Trump and end the shutdown WITHOUT any extension of the ACA, just a promise of a vote later down the line.

Call your senators, friends, NOW, and tell them NO DEAL without ACA funding!

I'm hearing the same thing. Dems are nearing a surrender. I'm shocked. Largest protest in history + best election night in years + polling showing we're kicking their ass in public opinion. And now Dems may cave.

It ain't over til it's over, so please do call if you've got a Dem senator.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Fun update on this after Metatopia.

In my first playtest, players mostly created normal humanoid characters (I think one had horns).

In my second, mostly the same except one character was a red panda humanoid.

In my third, 3 players independently made lizard people.
Scroll & Steel doesn't have the Names and Look sections often found in PBTA games, and that was a missed opportunity.

I've been making some quickstart playbooks, and I've really enjoyed adding these elements in. I think they do a lot to challenge assumptions you might automatically make.

Metatopia has been a lot of work and a lot of anxiety and at one point I just needed to lie down because of all the things but then a designer I admire said they really liked my playtest so I’m also now just a puddle of feelings.

First Metatopia playtest was a big success but there’s so much to digest.

I thought people were overreacting to the rude label but mine was set to hide and not warn and I didn't even know it. Go check your moderation settings and make sure that they're what you want.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

This Lyft ride is playing Delilah, which I did not know was still a radio show happening in the year 2025.

But what’s even stranger is hearing Delilah giving out advice to young women trying to follow their hearts, then the “Delilah” jingle, then Sabrina Carpenter’s Bed Chem.

I usually discourage AI witch hunting based on style and perceived flaws, and this is why. If you suspect someone is using AI, just check their background. If they were using AI, chances are that they weren’t shy about it.

There's a few games I point to that I say "that game made all of my GMing better" - Primetime Adventures and Apocalypse World are probably the two most influential games for teaching me how to prep, focus, and pace play much better.

Zohran Mamdani polled +40% on men under 30. So we wasted all that time on all those think pieces about how we need a Joe Rogan for the left, when what we actually needed were *policies* for the left.

Me last night: I’ve locked down my designs for Metatopia, no turning back, time to print out materials.

Me this morning: Okay but that one GM move should really be a different type of GM move.
