And what does the science say? It is clear. We must phase out fossil fuels not for the sake of the planet, but to ensure a livable future for us all. And "all" includes the inhabitants of those countries who prevented this phrase from being included in the final agreement.

Does anyone know of a good #documentary about toxic waste from the clothing industry? Extra good if it is in Bangladesh setting. About to write a group assignment about this topic and would like to start with an overview. Thanks! #toxicwaste #fashionindustry #sustainability

Synergies. We’re gonna need lots and lots of beautiful synergies.
"The sheep like the shade, plus the solar panels increase grass yield and protect sheep from predators," said Pearce. Meanwhile, Pearce revealed farmers and shepherds reap their own set of benefits, as "sheep eliminate the need for herbicides or costly grass cutting on the solar farms."

Helpful new summary of the role of transport in improving access to opportunities produced to prompt discussion in Parliament.

In sum: “Adaptable, reliable, accessible, sustainable, resilient to disruption and affordable transport is essential for accessing economic and social opportunities”
The role of transport in improving access to opportunities
There are significant regional and demographic differences in accessing opportunities, including jobs and education. How can transport improve connectivity?

🌳🦋 Climate Change & Invasive Pests

Rising temperatures are reducing the effectiveness of a natural fungus that controls spongy moth outbreaks.

This could lead to severe forest damage across North America.

We have to understand dynamics like these! It is essential if we want to start making the drastic changes societies need to undergo to mitigate the climate crisis. Maybe there is a tipping point, but if it’s not actual climate events what triggers it?! 🧐

A very real concern once these fires are extinguished in Southern California will be mudslide / debris flow risk in the months (years) to come. When the inevitable 'weather whiplash' occurs and the pattern shifts from dry to wet, there will be a lot of vulnerable communities near burn scar areas.

Interesting 🧵 about the challenges and opportunities around electrification of private vehicles.
Is the UK’s electric vehicle target about to fall to pieces? And why might it all hinge on parking in East London?

I shouldn’t tell you – yet – because our report only goes online the new year. But, since it’s running in the papers, here’s a thread.

There’s a very credible fiscal policy case to be made for “paying” (which can happen through many kinds of mechanisms) people to bike to work. Investing in safe bike infrastructure and providing financial incentives to ride rather than drive saves and makes public money. HT @momentummag.bsky.social
Here is Why Governments Paying People to Bike to Work Makes Sense
All that is required to make a massive modal shift is safe cycling infrastructure and an incentive, why not paying people to bike to work?

The #climate/water paradox: As temperatures rise, more #water evaporates into the atmosphere & more precipitation occurs. But land areas are getting drier not wetter. Why? Because more water evaporates from soils. The rain that falls is in intense events in fewer regions, leading to worse #floods 👉

Before choosing bottled water over tap water, remember it takes more than 10X the water that a bottle of water holds to make the plastic bottle and transport the water. And that’s before considering the fuel and GHGs, the 1000 year bottle life, and the RIDICULOUS amount of $ we’re paying for water.
