According Dr. Robert Atlas, the elimination of NOAA's AOML as proposed in their 2026 budget would result in a 20-40% decrease in hurricane forecast accuracy, costing the economy an estimated $10 billion each hurricane season. Sobering numbers on what's at stake.

Don't let oil bulls fool you. Crude oil extraction, stuff of OPEC quota policy and benchmark prices, is still below a 2018 peak. Investments in exploration and extraction are falling.

2025 investments:
Upstream oil - $420 billion
Solar - $450 billion

To be clear, the centre ground on net zero is that the public are broadly supportive - even if there is some conditionality to that support.

The idea that net zero is a source of significant electoral discomfort for Labour is a zombie political fact.
