A couple of weeks ago, I spotted a book called Volt Rush: The Winners and Losers in the Race to go Green in a local second hand book shop. It's an essential and fascinating read.

Back in the winter of 2004, the Prof and I ticked an item off our bucket list by travelling from St Petersburg to Beijing on the Trans-Siberian Railway (strictly speaking, we took the Trans-Mongolian ...

So many people think '#circulareconomy = more recycling.' but it is sooooooo much more than that.
Rule 8 of my 10 Rules for Corporate Sustainability tells us to focus on raw materials, not waste. And it features on this week's episode of the pod.

The Circular Economy is about Raw Materials, not Waste Management - Terra Infirma
Last year I published 10 Rules for Corporate Sustainability to mark the 200th edition of The Low Carbon Agenda (yes, that’s 200…). The ebook is a very short (10 page), punchy description of the 10 mos...

So, more Sustainability content than usual this week, and more in the responses than the questions. That continues a trend that the Government is increasingly confident in using Net Zero/Clean Energy as a stick with which to beat the Conservatives, Reform UK and populism in general.

In response to a Q re imported steel from an ex-Reform MP, DPM talks up role of 'industry supercharger' to bring down energy costs.
January 28, 2026 at 12:46 PM
Lib Dem MP attacks US withdrawal from the Paris Agreement and asks DPM to come on a fishing trip to his flooded constituency. DPM makes self-deprecating joke, and talks flood defences, makes economic case for Paris and Net Zero, but avoids mentioning the US
January 28, 2026 at 12:27 PM
In response to a softball DPM Lammy cites offshore wind and small nuclear reactors as "the difference Labour makes in Wales."
January 28, 2026 at 12:27 PM
Lib Dem Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper asks about PM Starmer's trip to China and repression of democracy, DPM Lammy cites collaboration on the climate as one of the reasons for closer ties.

Apart from that, the main exchange was about High Streets and it felt (and looked) very much like two bald men fighting over a comb.
January 28, 2026 at 12:16 PM
DPM Lammy attacks Andrew Griffiths (standing in for LOTO Kemi Badenoch) for supporting then opposing Net Zero. Griffiths doesn't take the bait.
January 28, 2026 at 12:13 PM
First question is from a Labour MP about illegal waste dumping across the country. Deputy PM Lammy says the EA is working on it, before making a joke at the Opposition's expense.

Sustainability at (Deputy) #PMQs - summarising the environmental content at the UK Parliament's big weekly set piece. Haven't needed the 🛎️ for months, will we get any anti-Sustainability nonsense this week with the cat away?

"Will Net Zero cost our organisation money?"

This is a question I'm frequently asked, but the answer is, well, complicated.

In today's blog, I tease out some of these issues and describe a Sustainability-friendly investment appraisal process.

Will Net Zero cost you money? - Terra Infirma
“Does Net Zero cost money?” That’s a question someone asked at a workshop I was facilitating last week. Everybody around the table nodded. “Hold on,” I said “You’ve just been telling me about all the ...

PS: left the Parliament channel running over lunch to hear the statement on the Warm Homes Plan - pleasantly surprised with the quality of the debate from all sides, at least until Sammy Wilson stood up.
January 21, 2026 at 1:19 PM
And that's it - not even a constituency railway station or bypass. Conclusions: a. Starmer is proud of the Warm Homes Plan and, b. sees the Greens as a risk as well as Reform.
January 21, 2026 at 12:41 PM
Tory rising star Katie Lam attacks her local water company and its boss for its emergency response. PM agrees (tangential again...)
January 21, 2026 at 12:36 PM
Starmer makes a recycling joke re Tories defecting to Reform, but it's overshadowed by the Speaker kicking out a Tory MP for shouting (yes I *am* getting that desperate for content here).
January 21, 2026 at 12:36 PM
Green MP raises the water white paper, and asks about the lack of detail on agricultural run-off. PM says he inherited a mess, but pivots to attack the Green Party's leader on NATO.

She stays on international/defence issues.

That may have been partly to pre-empt an attack by LOTO Kemi Badenoch, but she starts on Greenland and Chagos.
