A few years ago I went to the Whitney plantation near New Orleans. One of only two former plantations that shows the slaves' side of the story with all the cruelty, danger and industrial scale rape to create babies born to be slaves. Gut wrenching. Horrendous. Unforgettable.
Slavery was much worse than you were taught. White Supremacist terrorism and lynching was much worse than you were taught. Jim Crow and racial segregation was much worse than you were taught. The legacy of slavery is much worse than you were taught.
"How bad slavery was" is worse. Much worse. Much worse than you think, much worse than you're taught, much worse than museums depict. Worse.

Sadly, it's the same story in Canada. The CBC had to disallow commenting on all stories related to indigenous people or issues because of the hideous and unrelenting racism.

The thing that is so disappointing about the racism in Australia is that we cannot pay to boost any of our social media posts for our annual fundraising events or workshops.
Anything Indigenous specific -always results in such horrific racism and trolling that it’s a full time job dealing with it.

New financial year = new season for woolgrowers 🐑

Supply has shrunk, but so has demand, in a race to the bottom against fast fashion.

Consider this your FY25-26 reminder to pick up some Aussie wool products, particularly as winter bites!

a. This is not a "small example" of anything. Its a great big example of entitled male privilege, misogyny and violence.
b. I will not accept the minimisation of this as "bad behaviour". See point a.
c. None of this had anything to do with elections or signs or Independents.

@alankohler.bsky.social makes the long-overdue argument that low & falling productivity isn’t workers’ fault; it’s management failure.

In some MSM circles accustomed to bashing Aussie workers, it’s a sacrilege but an eminently obvious fact of economics.

Again for the newcomers or those who have just missed the memo:

USE ALT-TEXT ON THE IMAGES IN YOUR BLUESKY POSTS.

Makes those images actually useful for people who are visually impaired, plus it helps filter out images (e.g. of certain politicians) that people want to avoid.

And it's easy! :)
