There's been an uptick in impersonators who target users with easily swappable handles (i's for l's, o's for 0's, varying repeated letters, etc)
They will always
1) block the original artist
2) target users who have replied with interest, either thru QRPs, replies, or DMs

It baffles me that every year there are Trick or Treat police!
Meanwhile, we have a pile of Halloween rubber ducks, pokemon cards, glowsticks AND candy that anyone who shows up just gets. If you think you can't afford to be generous one day a year to strangers, buy the cheap stuff in bulk.

This is by far the most important reason to use ALT text, but there are other benefits, too. For example, people who speak different languages can plug your text into a translator if they don't understand an image. It also improves SEO and discoverability on bluesky.
Just came across this on Mastodon and thought I'd share it for anyone wondering if adding image alt text is "worth it."

One last thing - please keep in mind that there are some people who have valid cognitive or physical reasons why they can't write ALT text. It's important not to let the push for ALT text inclusion to turn into ableism against them. ❤️
