I’m in a medical debt/collections war because Bon Secours fucked up my billing, told me to wait 30 days for them to fix it, and within that 30 day period, they sent it to fucking collections. I refuse to pay it. Now the collections agency calls me 4x a day.

In Virginia, it is estimated that 78% of working people – about 3.4 million workers –have no guarantee that they won’t miss a critical paycheck when they need to take time off to care for themselves or a loved one. It's time for Paid Family & Medical Leave in Virginia.

Want Food Assistance? Go Broke First
Our society believes that people must be utterly broke, without a penny to their name, to deserve social assistance. We demand that they deplete their own resources before utilizing any others. But…

Based on new USDA data released today, 44 states would have to pay tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars under Senate Republicans' #SNAP cost-shift plan. If a state can't fully pay, they would have to cut many low-income families off SNAP or end their program altogether.

Even with tweaks, the Senate plan would still cut health and food assistance, leave millions uninsured, and leave states struggling to fill the gaps.

Under the Republican health agenda, about 17 million would lose health coverage and become uninsured. That's not minutiae.

A sad day.

🥗 The list of awful and horrifying provisions of the reconciliation bill is just staggering. How can we hurt as many people as possible, as cruelly as possible, with the sole justification to further enrich the already stinking rich?

Under the slightly revised version, each state’s unfunded mandate would be based on error rate data that is 3, rather than 2 years old. States would know the share of SNAP benefits they are being forced to absorb a year earlier. But no one should think this fixes this policy.

🥗 A huge problem with work requirements is that they disregard care work as work. Raising a child is work. Caring for an ill partner or elderly parent is work. Grandparents caring for grandkids are working. But they would be cut off of SNAP unless they work 20 hours/week in addition to care work.
🥗 "If enacted, these proposals would inflict long-term harm on children, older adults, veterans, military families, and low-wage workers — the very people SNAP is designed to support."

THIS is unconscionable. This follows USDA requesting state data on SNAP enrollees dating back to January 2020.
