„CSU—US’s largest public uni system—went all-in with a $17mill partnership with OpenAI. . .CSU unveiled its grand technological gesture just as it proposed slashing $375mill from its budget. While admin cut ribbons on AI, they were cutting faculty positions, academic programs, student services.“
AI is Destroying the University and Learning Itself
Students use AI to write papers, professors use AI to grade them, degrees become meaningless, and tech companies make fortunes. Welcome to the death of higher education.

The upper chamber of the gov't of Tasmania is debating the stadium proposal right now.
AS it's the off-season, Reddit r/AFL has put it on as a match report. 😆

Searched PDN Express and 4PX in Reddit today.
Oh my.
That explains why one personal package hasn't moved in two weeks, and why they couldn't figure out how to deliver to a business.
I wish I had known and gone with another company - lost a lot of time waiting for something uinlikely to ever come.

StatsCan today:
The share of full professors 65 and older:
5.6% in 2005/2006
22.6% in 2024/2025 😅

(Big gender gaps in wage and rank)☹️

Maybe we can put some of these data centers to keep the internet actually running, instead of AI?

Earth Science dep't just bought a new 8-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope. We wanted to take it out tonight, full moon and all. Yeah, it 80% overcast and no good viewing for over a week in the forcast. ☹️

In early grade school (late 70's) I had to write a newspaper sports article- based on a real newpaper's sport stats page.
I remember how wierd that was, restating some facts someone else had gathered and written and anyone could read themselves.

Now there is TikTok "breaking news".

Honouring the US soldiers of the Wounded Knee massacre? People knew at the time it was a crime.
The smug arrogance of his pronouncement.
The pictures of the aftermath.

Tuesday is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation here in Canada.

I can't type what I'm feeling now.

The campus bookstore has new management.
1. Who organizes books by author, and not course number?
2. Confirmed there is a $500 textbook, as seen on Reddit.
So glad our department uses only free or old versions.

Very thoughtful post. Thank you Marc.
The biggest challenge to innovation and change is academic freedom. The biggest challenge to upholding learning and scholarship against hype and misinformation is also academic freedom.
