4PX delivered one item - but couldn't follow the road signs to shipping and receiving and literally dumped it in the first building they came to.

Pretty well. What I like is mapping grade to standards, not effort. 100% on 75% of the quizzes, I can say they have "mastered" 75% of the content, I know what content they learned (and didn't), and have no problem giving them a 75% in the course. No more fussing with points or rounding.

Agreed on the practice. With this system, for the very first time, I *know* they're practicing! They must fix their mistakes and explain it to retry the quiz. The first time having hard evidence of wide-spread, deliberate engagement with the material.
Maybe not happy engagement ...

I'd like to ask Lorenzo if he struggled with the placement of the halos.

We’re trying standards grading this term. Weekly quizzes, must get 100%. One chance at revision, extra revision chances sprinkled in. HW and final count less, and can only lift grade. Equitable and mastery based. IRB approval to write it up in the new year.

Something in California's air. Cargo cult embrace of equity grading, by misreading research on standards based grading. Setting up a system for more grade inflation.

The idea of software by subscription rather than ownership goes back to at least 1999!

Isn't this why the Pentegon fails spending audits? Not really sure what we're spending money on, but have lots of weapons and equipment laying around to show for it.

The knowledge economy is passing us by.

Build things, dig up things, any commodity to sell! Gas, electrcitiy, wood! Must increase the "goods" trade.

Maybe, just maybe, we should pivot to selling more "services" and "skills" - you know, the foundation of all *modern* economies?

Education must always be pragmatic.
Scholarship? What's that?

Unis should be clearinghouses of human knowledge, institutions that brings together seekers and providers of information and knowledge, thus matching demand with supply.

Cool!
I could use this in class when we reach the dosimetry unit.

(Curious that Ian is reporting in rads, not Gy as the NASA data uses. Likely becuase of the older equipment at UC Davis?)
