I don’t know if you’ve given a lot of thought to who it is that actually, practically, handles executions.

In Alabama, it’s a small team of guards that *votes* on bringing in new members to their team.

And court records show a mountain of really violent accusations against them:
In Alabama, Prison Guards Accused of Violence and Misconduct Carry Out Secretive Executions
As the state keeps details around the death penalty hidden, an investigation into its execution team raises questions about how incarcerated people are treated in their final moments.

an under-discussed dimension of this scotus majority is its bloodthirstiness. it has not yet seen a prisoner it wasn’t ready to execute in the name of some properly orderly process
SCOTUS won't stay the execution of Marcellus Williams. The three liberals dissent.

They knowingly killed a man who is likely innocent. The political right has devolved from “of course the system would never executed an innocent man” to executing an innocent man just to show they can.

IT'S OFFICIAL: The mask ban in Nassau County, NY is now law.

It gives police the power to fine people wearing a mask $1,000 and sentence them to jail time.

While the bill includes health and religious exceptions, the broad language means anyone wearing a mask could be arrested.

Many are rightfully angry that Olympic athletes are competing sick with COVID. We should be even more outraged that people can't access medical care due to lack of masking in a COVID surge, and that many people with COVID are forced to work because they don't have sick leave.
