Agree with TPS Chief Demkiw. Police cannot be thought of or deployed as social workers when they are trained and armed to act as law enforcement. As a former crisis worker, we are best equipped to support people in mental health crisis. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Agree with TPS Chief Demkiw. Police cannot be thought of or deployed as social workers when they are trained and armed to act as law enforcement. As a former crisis worker, we are best equipped to support people in mental health crisis. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

We don't frame homelessness as being disabling in-itself, but it entails extreme detriments to people's health and welfare — both psychologically, because it is a constant state of trauma, and because of external and situational hazards, like extreme cold.

We should consider this in Toronto. Anecdotally, cold-related injuries for homeless people are rampant, but we haven't measured the scale. In my own work, I've seen people's injuries compound over multiple winters until all their fingers are gone. www.ctvnews.ca/northern-ont...
