Fascism rising. I remember 2 decades ago working w/refugees from Angola (as a trauma therapist) and they would tell me about friends and family being arrested for performing political plays. They, themselves had to flee for things like just creating political art - this is how countries get there.
A free and democratic society cannot silence comedians because the President doesn’t like what they say.
This is an attack on free speech and cannot be allowed to stand.
All elected officials need to speak up and push back on this undemocratic act.

I was interviewed earlier this week by @realcatbrooks.bsky.social who asked "what are the signs you cite that we're living under authoritarianism" & I listed the ones I had, and didn't imagine that, just days later, I'd add "the arrest of an elected official in the course of his duties" to the list.

Note to all democrats in office not doing something bold, something engaging personal risk, and by the way politically the right move right now and every day forward....we see you and we see when we don't see you. It actually matters.
It’s Easter today. If you resonate or just find the history or mythos an important narrative in this moment there is no greater call to action. In the Abrahamic lineages it is one of the greatest calls to action - to speak truth to power, to speak for the refugee and the most marginalized person.

Wish congressional reps allergic to saying the true things they are afraid are not popular (like kidnapping and disappearing migrants without due process) would take this note. Wish my reps weren’t afraid of boldly representing us. People I just invested in with my vote. #andykim #mikiesherrill

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!

This is an obvious point, but cannot overstated. There is an enormous difference between deporting someone - where they get off a plane as a free citizen in their home country AND FUNNELING THEM INTO A BRUTAL PRISON FROM WHICH THEY HAVE NO CHANCE OF EVER EMERGING!!!
Not the big law firms or the big universities but one of those civil servants everyone has made caricatures of has the bravery to say no to these flagrant violations of rights. #civilhero #itsalwaysthewomen

Sending people w/out due process to El Salvador is horrific but people with brown skin/visa holders/global tourists are already being detained for no reason. I am already building my own safety and emergency plans. I am infuriated that no democratic politicians are talking about this.
