May he one day be denied pierole, as well.
This should turn into something like JD Vance and the couch joke with Dershowitz being refused pierogis everywhere he goes.
Can’t say why exactly, but the phrase “once again refused a pierogi” made me laugh out loud.

I can think of many motivations for Duffy to lie about the state of public transit, but none of them are based in reality nor will they improve our standard of living and promote economic growth.
Sean Duffy: "The truth is, transit across America is dangerous. And these liberals -- liberal mayors -- they want everybody out of cars and into trains but they made the trains unsafe so nobody really wants to ride them ... even big men don't want to ride the subway at those times of night."

Simple math is no match for the mental gymnastics people will perform to avoid confronting that they might have listened to the wrong people with the wrong motives.
It’s so crazy that climate deniers think humans don’t cause climate change but volcanos eruptions do.

The eruption of Mount St. Helens released ~10 Mt of CO₂ into the atmosphere.

Human activities currently release that amount of CO₂ in ~2 hours.

I’ve had the honor of working with Universities to create centers that support under-represented student communities, and the results are consistently dynamic places that help ALL students succeed in school and as citizens. The cynicism here is breathtaking.

Meanwhile, beneath the clouds: Blade Runner.
The Jetsons, an influential cartoon television series of the 1960s “Sputnik” era, imagined we’d all have flying cars and therefore live on the tops of towers. It was the perfect sprawl futurism, in which technology finally triumphs in its long struggle to make walking impossible.

Heather Cox Richardson’s daily email summarizes the impact to institutions, including 6 in OH. The impact of this will affect the AEC industry as fewer lab and facility renovations (an indirect cost subject to the cuts) will be affordable to support the research that has been funded.

This is an achievement that can be replicated through intelligent choices. Under-utilized urban road space can eventually be returned to higher and better uses.
on the right efficiency, on the left the amount of space sacrificed for cars on the off chance they may use them

Truth! Remember, also, that green/high performance buildings address the fact that labor is the biggest ongoing cost for any enterprise. High quality spaces boost productivity and retention, and reduce absenteeism. Green buildings and PT are a potent combination for physical and economic health.
Really enjoying the revised edition of @humantransit.bsky.social ‘s classic book on public transit. This is such an important point about the difference between building roads and constructing PT infrastructure. Cost efficiencies from PT infra are mostly realized long after it’s built!

University campuses, many of which are nearly cities unto themselves, have a huge advantage over cities in terms of political self-determination. It is much easier for their leaders to realize these benefits by promoting bikes and walking on campus, and restricting the presence of cars.
“One mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.”

“Which means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.” #CityMakingMath

After canceled events, it will be jobs, and after jobs, it will be empty offices that no University can afford to let sit idle. The end result could be the erasure of the very physical spaces where students of all stripes find the support they need to succeed in college.
