I am absolutely gobsmacked at the narrative design of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. The game has made the open-world open-character design world that Bethesda has always promised, but never fully achieved.

Last night I, played in an awesome demo of Westward Bound, the expansion of The Last Caravan #ttrpg, with @tedbushman.bsky.social. Our group of several dogs (and a cat) set off to find our owners, which led us to a massive landfill, a pack of surprisingly erudite wolves, and humans up to no good.

Why winter road trips are the best
Rob was a delightful and friendly person who immediately treated me like a peer despite his experience and thoughtfulness.
Rob Wieland was the tabletop community's Man At Forbes who did a lot to promote us all in the public eye. His last post was on the Last Caravan Kickstarter, which he probably did not anticipate would be his last.
May we all attain the level of kindness and geekery that Rob did.

My latest essay is on @olddog.games's "Deathmatch Island!" I talk about how the game designs its climax around the Prisoner's Dilemma, and how, despite the fact that the game wants you to break that cycle, that initial tension is the best part of the text.
In the new Last Caravan expansions we're diving more deeply into our weird world, fleshing out the aliens and their culture. Nothing is more emblematic of that than THE VERDANT, our new alien biologist playbook! Be an alien! Have a backpack with a lil guy in it!
