If you are an archeologist with sinister intent is your RESPONSIBILITY to rush to Washington D.C. and start digging around — you need to discover some sort of dangerous, bloodthirsty ancient cryptid, up to and including a primordial life spirit the discovery of which triggers some sort of cataclysm

Closed since August's flooding, the Mothership bar in Bay View sets reopening date
Historic flooding damaged everything in Mothership's basement. It's finally ready to reopen for the first time since August.

One consequence of the sports game network diaspora is that my dad is downloading apps to his Roku called things like "Live TV Plus 2" because he wants to watch the Packers and "it was on the Roku app"

i try not to make too much of judicial news because i don't really know how the higher court system works, and it's entirely possible this stay continues; SCOTUS picks it back up, etc., and it's not necessarily that the Dems just folded for nothing. But with that caveat: Cmon man
BREAKING
The 1st Circuit REJECTS Trump DOJ's request to pause a judge's order to pay up Nov's SNAP funds to the states.
The SCOTUS stay will expire within 48 hours absent further action from the justices, per its terms.

i don't say things like this often, as i find them hyperbolic to the point of extreme dilution, so please believe me when I say this is the most severe, graceful dissection of Musk I've seen. Swift, effortlessly deep, like piano wire through tofu. If someone spoke of me like this I’d be abed a week

I understand why a swing Dem would be under insane pressure to get SNAP re-funded — puts states in untenable situations moreso than ACA subs do. & I don't think mutual aid can replace the state. But it'd be nice to see these offices assisting with food distribution instead. A little Pollyannaish

we're bringing back the actual definition of "emotional labor"
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.
They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.
If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."
🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

Target is now requiring its employees to smile more
As the holiday season fast approaches, Target is urging its employees to add a little more “jolly” to their work routine.

decided to pick up Hades 2 last night — loved the first one — and on my second run I picked up the upgrade that lets you attack x2 for 5 mana + the boon that restores 4 mana on hit. Add that to a boon that makes the attack wider and I mashed my way to the 3rd boss. Feel like I should retire already.

I take online yoga classes and there's this one instructor who got me to buy a year membership to his own site mostly because he phrases things just a little weirdly — like "On your back, lay down" or "Bring forward your arms" — and it brings me much delight

It's fundamentally absurd that someone with these wacko beliefs is allowed to give legal permission to Donald Trump to do whatever he wants. I'm of course speaking about transubstantiation
JUSTICE AMY CONEY BARRETT:
“Being a conservative woman in a law school, particularly, takes a lot of courage and independence, and in many ways shows more feminism than just falling into some predetermined vision of what a woman should be.”

Defector dot com isn't the answer to everything, but it's the best answer anyone's come up with. Much better than the Substack universe imo
How does one invest in left-wing media without a far-right billionaire coming along in a few years, buying said media, and remodeling it in his own image?
That seems to be a recurring problem.

AITA: Restaurant had a special on the menu flagged it for peanut allergies. I have a tree nut allergy, not a peanut allergy, so I ordered it. It had cashews; I had a nasty allergic reaction. While I have a responsibility to ask, was it reasonable for me to assume that the dish was nut-free?

I believe that the average writer has 1–2 thoughts a month that are worth sharing and that writing blog posts multiple times a week threatens to make you boorish and dumb. This explains the state of most of our op-ed writers.

We need to "call in" Ren and Stimpy, not call them out. Their rambunctious behavior cannot stand — but we must not resort to carceral or shame-based faux-solutions.
