VicPD's 2026 budget proposal is outrageous and harmful. I've reposted my email to #yyj council here. I encourage anyone opposed to uncontrolled police spending to write to Victoria (councillors@victoria.ca) or Esquimalt (council@esquimalt.ca) to tell them. www.needsmorespikes.com/blog/2025/11...
VicPD's budget stinks — Needs More Spikes
VicPD wants an $11 million, 14% budget increase in 2026. Here is my message to council outlining some of the ways VicPD’s budget is harmful and unnecessary, and where to start cutting.

Teen Vogue did some terrific work. Great story here on Teen Vogue and how the Vogue/Conde Nast bosses seem like the "liberal" types who have been eager to use Trump's rise as a pretext to silence progressives/leftists they disagree with. www.cjr.org/feature/the-...
What the closure of Teen Vogue means for journalism.
Condé Nast folded a beloved magazine that treated youth and feminism as political topics, not trends.

All these service cuts to pay for more police budget increases. What a disgrace.
‘Many difficult decisions ahead’: Victoria budget cut talk has begun. Victoria council has agreed to keep the youth bus pass program, but has voted to eliminate other programs.

#yyj Councillors, looking for ways to save the youth transit pass? Reconsider the $$ to reinstate the SPLO program. Let police do policing and let teachers teach.

The original Dem demands were:
1) Permanent ACA subsidies
2) Medicaid funding restored
3) No more blank checks for the regime (rescission)

They dropped Medicaid immediately. Went silent on rescission. Cut back to 1 year of subsidies on Friday. And surrendered today.

8 weeks ago the Gov't of Canada promised “concrete actions” in response to “intolerable” suffering in Gaza.

The intolerable suffering continues. Plans for a concentration camp are openly discussed.

The GoC says & does nothing & maintains normal diplomatic relations with Israel. It is complicit.

Wars, be they military or trade, benefit a tiny handful of elites and cost everyone else (on all sides alike) terribly.

We need spotlights on those elite benefits and those collective costs, put constantly side by side. The divides are not nation-state based but class based.

Everyone who pays alot of attention to politics right now is losing their mind because it’s really difficult to understand how the majority of people are just like “yep living my life, oh a program to hire more women? Idk sounds good to me, I voted Trump to lower inflation hopefully he’s doing that”
Favorability of DEI Programs:

Favorable: 45%
Unfavorable: 36%
Net: +9%

Copying a tactic from the pro Israel lobby…when a different opinion, meant to save lives, becomes ‘harm’
Beyond parody: while debating the motion to re-instate natural gas heating in new buildings, Mayor Sim and Cllr. Brian Montague described the colourful artwork created by children & displayed by Cllrs Fry & Carr "intimidating" to those who express pro-gas opinions. Demand the signs be taken down.
