Talk to me about better transit, clean air, clean oceans, more trees, leaders who do things, and hope. Oh and about New Jersey!

I'm also hoping we can finally get our first low-traffic neighborhood (cough, Gowanus, cough) up and running under the new administration. We really need the new administration to move beyond just adding bike lanes and toward car-reduction strategies.

Fulop made it a huge campaign issue, because there was finally a groundswell to make it happen. He had been trying for years on his own (lots of credit to his efforts!), but progress was hard to come by.

I think it's very clearly because of advocacy. We had a ton of electeds get involved, 7K people signed a petition (that's a lot for NJ), and loads of press coverage. Do you think Mikie (or any other candidate) would have been talking about the PATH without this 18 month campaign?

If it's possible NJ should definitely do this. I have a hypothesis that east-west traffic is more aggressive and dangerous because of the lack of tolls. It probably also over encourages truck warehouses along those routes.

Yep, and it can be installed in old cars

NJ could pass a VMT tax instead to tie taxes to actual use of the streets. I'm sure that would be really popular :)

I've been trying to do the math, but it's more complicated given where the data is buried. It looks like when we adjust for inflation tolls have gone up very substantially. According to the chatgpt (so needs to be fact checked) prices have gone up 20% in ten years when adjusting for inflation.

I think toll prices are a big deal, I know many people who are driving different routes to avoid tolls. The only issue is the ezpass partially masks it, so people don't feel the pain every time they use the highway.
