Just walked into a restaurant and Indiana Jones is playing on CMT. I guess they don’t play videos anymore either.

18.5 Never had AOL but my childhood neighbors had a waterbed, so I at least saw one of those in the wild.

This definitely feels like “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Who will be the first to make a feature film stitching together these clips?
"Users of the AI video creation platform [Sora] will now be able to create clips of 200 characters from Marvel, Pixar and Star Wars franchises."

"Whether that ultimately destabilizes the production and content creation side of the entertainment industry may be the big question."

I’m sure there’s a joke in here about renaming HBO Max yet again, but this just seems depressing. deadline.com/2025/12/netf...

I feel this. I was looking at my daily word counts in Pacemaker this morning and thinking “There’s no way I’ll make that.” I was aiming to finish half a manuscript by New Years but even a quarter would be an accomplishment.
Many of you are freaking out because you've done the math and it's going to be very hard to finish that manuscript by New Year's.

That's okay. It really is.

Targets are to help you get words on the page. No one will know or care that you finish days or weeks after your date.

Just. Keep. Writing.

Fun fact: We are now further away from the release of Jurassic Park (June 11, 1993) than the year the dinosaurs depicted in the movie ruled the earth (65 million BC).
We are now further away from the theatrical release of Raiders of the Lost Ark (June 12, 1981) than it was from the year it takes place in (1936). We have reached the Indiana Jones event horizon.

A solid list. My only change would be possibly bumping up AotC to 9. Rise of Skywalker is the only one I haven’t rewatched.
haven’t seen ROS or Solo but this seems like a pretty ball-knowing list from Pritzker, particularly if he volunteered the name “Star Wars” rather than “A New Hope”

This came at the perfect time for me as I find myself doing these very same things.
It would be weird to play soccer using the tennis rules. So why are we writing fiction with the unnecessary limitations of film? I have some theories. And I wrote about 12 things film teaches us wrong (and 4 it teaches us right) about writing prose. Please join me!

It's 2024, y'all. You have a project you've been dying to write. You've spent years telling yourself you'll do it. You've also spent years wondering if you're even good enough to try.

I'm here to tell you that you are.

2024 is the year you prove to yourself and the world what you're capable of.
