The NHS must invest in comprehensive provision of alternatives to inpatient care to ensure more people to get effective help closer to home, according to a new report from Centre for Mental Health #CareBeyondBeds www.centreformentalhealth.org.uk/publications...

Disabled people have been discriminated against in every aspect of life: care, housing, employment, transportation and countless others.
No one should be codifying assisted dying for disabled people before disabled people are provided with the necessities of life.

With a (sometimes hidden) disability I feel people underestimate the pressure society has put on us to reach certain milestones.
Grieving the time I have lost to my illness is both painful and liberating. Doing life slowly and letting go of where I feel should be is a constant journey
Yeesh, had a hell of a therapy session over being disabled and unable to reach "basic" milestones like learning to drive, moving out, etc & feeling "behind".

It's... sobering to realize how much this is steeped in ableism & that it's not a moral failing to have different milestones from ~the norm~

Channel 4 documentary on benefits was ‘atrocity’ and ‘insult’ to disabled people in poverty, say activists
A Channel 4 documentary that claimed to expose the “scandal” of the disability benefits system has been described as an “atrocity” and an “insult” to the millions of disabled people in poverty. The…

Where is the talk of the mass disabling event that was the pandemic? Where is the recognition that we are a genuinely sicker society?

I am 10 minutes into the Channel 4 Dispatches Documentary on benefits, and I'm already enraged at the representation of those with disabilities.

Most Brits will look at the US reaction to the assassination of United Health’s CEO & think “thank god we don’t have that system, where insurance firms try every trick to deny care even to ppl theoretically covered”…& have no idea that United Health is already “helping” NHS manage access & provision
United Health have hefty UK government contracts to run a whole bunch of NHS decision making trees, influencing treatment decisions & population healthcare planning, they also just recently bought the company that holds England’s GP records…& Wes Streeting shows no sign of seeing this as a problem.

Obviously milk as it relates to the climate crisis is political, but it feels like they're trying to create a culture war over your milk choices, and that just feels a little hilarious

Kind of love that we now have left wing milk 😅

How have we got to the point where even milk is up for political debate.

If Labour don’t offer the public enough positive change, lots more people are going to flock to Farage.

The lens of ableism devalues and dehumanizes disabled people.
The lens of ableism blurs access, accommodation, rights, equity and justice for disabled people in favor of continued exclusion.

I am in favour of assisted dying but im extremely wary until society accepts, appreciates and supports the sick & disabled to live. I don’t trust a society who forever calls us a burden or scroungers to make decisions in our best interests. The article was genius

This is why we need a Labour party that doesn't pander to the far right. Offer us an inspiring vision for the future without sowing more division.
A terifying possibility we need to be ready to fight back against. Part of that fight back will include making @bsky.app the biggest social media platform in the world. We CAN do it

🚨DR UK's Statement on Passing of Assisted Dying Bill

We stand firmly against a law that risks pressuring Disabled people into decisions driven by lack of options rather than genuine choice. This bill could reinforce the narrative that Disabled people’s lives are less valuable.

I saw this art and I really don't think people understand how much disabled people like me are framed as "burdens" as it is - maybe it would be better for everyone if we were to end our suffering. It saves our families money & time caring for us. The taxpayer money.

So, as seen in Canada...

Labour can’t even mention long Covid in their ‘Get Britain Working’ White Paper but they can make time for an Assisted Dying Bill.

Sums everything up.

The fact that self-worth is often tied to wage labour can be devastating, but whether you're in work or not, you deserve to feel valued. We are all just trying to survive in increasingly dark times, and if you're still with us, you're doing a great job #mentalhealth #disability #work
The hardest work l've ever done wasn't paid.

It was staying alive when I was at my lowest.

It was caring for someone I loved.

It was surviving when survival felt impossible.

Work takes many forms.
