Infuriating. I've known various trans women who've done sex work and its always been because transition is expensive and there is often little to no help available. To trivialize this kind of thing is revolting. These "researchers" need a good punch in the brain.

I think the Problem I'm just stuck with is that if I can't identify something valuable and useful that I can have as a consequence of being trans then the entire time I spent not transitioning has been a complete waste that gained me nothing

This is because the Type Of Girl who typically ends up in this situation is often the type that puts a lot of her self worth on being independent and not needing help from others, and so will generally not reach out when she could use help - But will signal strongly when she figures stuff out
