I’m going to put my rich guy hat on and say I hope that Mexico and Canada issue equal, retaliatory tariffs and stick to them for an extended period.

I apologize to all the people it will cost money and the businesses it will hurt.

But it’s the only way for tariffs to be seen for what they are

My kind of warning
Cop: I'll let you off with a warning

Me: thanks!

Cop [eyes go black]: soon the planets will align with the galactic center, and the door to the realm between realms will open. He Who Slumbers in The Void will awaken and emerge into this universe at last

Me: th- that uhh, seems worse than a ticket

For one of the best tech podcasts, listen to the NYT Hard Fork. Been listening to Kevin Roose and Casey Newton since episode 1
It's Hard Fork Friday! This week, a DeepSeek deep dive with ChinaTalk's Jordan Schneider. Then, Kevin and I compare notes on OpenAI's Operator, and we end aboard the Hot Mess Express www.nytimes.com/2025/01/31/p...

In 2014 it took $100k to put you in the top 10% by income in the US

Now it takes $150k

The top 5% went from $132k to $201k

Prices are higher but ppl are making more $$$

Some thoughts on inflation, wages and what constitutes a high income:

Looks like some denominator blindness here. Should be increase as a % of 2018 level
From John Authers' latest Bloomberg Opinion column, "Doubting America can still cost you a lot of money."

(replying) Hey man your post should've been different. You should've used a different word or possibly expressed a totally different idea entirely. Preferably the one I would've used

As a British news enjoyer, the whole Elon frame has been crazy - he just heard about it so he informed the UK that it had never heard of this story that was HUGE and EVERYWHERE a decade ago.
You've got to hand it to Elon Musk - getting 71% of British people to agree on anything is impressive

40 years of living in Texas and I've come to the conclusion that the no state income tax thing is basically a scam. The property taxes are so high that they negate any savings. We are still paying as many taxes in Texas as we would in California. You save on gas I guess
