My dad will have been dead for two months tomorrow morning. I would love to talk to him forever. I can't. And a fucking glorified LLM-fueled chatbot can't change that, but it can be a freakish abomination in the eyes of God and men, preying on the grief stricken to give them shit and call it gold.

On the centenary of Thatcher's birth, there have been predictable calls for a memorial to her memory. But Britain's 2300 food banks serve that purpose already.

What I also want to know is why proper reporting like this is behind a paywall while the lies these harmful arseholes spread get splashed everywhere. Well, we know why. It’s horrific that the media companies are so complicit in this.
Despite enduring a constant stream of false and malicious rumours throughout this term, I’ve chosen to stay focused on our city’s progress. Now, mayoral candidates who have helped spread these rumours are standing for election. This behaviour is not acceptable and voters deserve to know. #nzpol

Not to be a wide-eyed naïf about such things but... am I right in thinking that they levelled an entire building to get to one guy and *that* is not controversial to anyone in the American media or political class, only that this information was recklessly shared in an unsecured chat?

Here’s the thing, you don’t actually have to report what Brian Tamaki says. You could just describe his and his followers actions as what they are, homophobia and transphobia.

The "need to listen" this is the 1 that gets my goat the most. No, democracies don't vanish between elections, but elections are the starting point & the left *won by a landslide* in Wellington. A predominantly left wing council is doing, within budgetary constraints, what most of the city voted for
Three clear themes came out of the panel - city leaders need to listen to rich privileged folk, they need to respect rich privileged folk ahead of the wishes of the electorate - that voted for progress - and they need to bring in more innovation based on the reckons of rich privileged folk.
