What's really going on here is that after the For Some Women Scotland decision The Times lied and lied and lied and lied and lied again to its readers about what the decision meant and the Supreme Court decided. An important point to come out of the Sandie Peggie case is that 'gender critical' employees can't take matters into their own hands and confront trans employees. If they do that it is likely to be harassment/ bullying/ a hate incident.

A Labour government passed the Equality Act. A Labour government was in power when the Supreme Court interpreted it to not mean what ministers at the time were clear it was intended to mean. The Labour government response should have been to legislate to fix it. Not doing so was a cowardly betrayal.

All the “Benefit Street budget” headlines are not evidence of what mean-spirited country we live in, but of how deeply invested the right and their media shills are in conditioning people to resent the poor and to blame them for their poverty. (Irrespective of the budget’s actual merits.)
