Slime channel form in game, plus an updated look at how things are coming along.

When Monster-type enemies are defeated Claire absorbs their essence in the form of skills :D

In this example, killing a Slime drains some charges of the Sticky Punch skill.

I've done a bunch of UI work lately as well but I'd like to wait til I've done a bit more of the art for it just cause it's not super pretty right now, even though it's important and functional :)

I played UNDERTALE just under a month after it came out, and I don't think I'd look at games the same way if I hadn't. There's something raw and unpolished about it that makes it so charming; it's perfect in all it's imperfections. I don't think my own game would be the same without it. Thanks Toby.

Brief sidequest to rewrite my status conditions system because it was causing all kinds of headaches.

UI needs a little more juice still but pretty happy with it now. God I love Tweens.

The script for this battle is just over 1000 lines of code so probably some room for improvement.

That includes things like hacked together camera movement and stuff which should be moved to reuseable behaviour classes too, so it'll probably end up cut down significantly after it's tidied up.

Not exactly real progress but it is cool that everything is still totally readable on a CRT.

My HDMI converter is a bit rubbish so it’s cut off the party health bars and there some latency but other than that it looks great!

Been a bit busy with "Real Job" stuff but I've got Piper following Claire around in the overworld now, plus figured out a simple yet flexible system for handling cutscenes!

Dialogue boxes need a little work still but probably fine for now.

Yeah pretty happy with this lighting model. Obviously all exaggerated for testing purposes, but will make some torches or something to properly light the scene tomorrow.

I think this is a good direction. Still want to do some kind of stylised lighting on the background but at the very least I'm happy with how the vibe is coming along.

It's kind of amazing that *just* adding a background makes this much difference. Need to figure out how to give the characters a little more "pop" though.

Figuring out what to do about level design and stumbled on Trenchbroom and TBLoader. Both weird and cool to know that this is effectively a Quake map in my game.

Might look into some custom lighting shaders to help it look a bit less flat.

Finally player healthbars with some nice portraits (my first time doing like actual pixel art lol). Also did a bunch of tidying up and restructuring so now your party's health and resources are actually persistant.

Absolutely nothing! There will be ways to learn what the melodies he can play are (as well as a way to reference them mid-battle) but if you get it wrong it just skips your turn.

(This part is kinda unfinished so excuse the lack of any visual flair or sfx lol)
