I'm still struggling to assimilate the latest round of pedophile evidence. But it seems to me that if a political party cannot mount an effective opposition to a pedophile, either that political party shouldn't exist anymore or the country in which they're operating shouldn't.
[cn child abuse

i am aware that there are awful, awful adults who do horrible things to children. it is another to see the joy and impunity, just notoriously open celebration of Epstein child raping from people who are ridiculously wealthy and powerful. it's disorienting.

"Harvard can't use race as a factor in admissions, but ICE can use race as a factor in detentions" is a retrenchment essentially to a pre-Civil War understanding of the Constitution. It's vanishingly few steps removed from "Latinos have no rights which the white man is bound to respect."

Melissa Hortman, who was assassinated last night, was the Speaker of the Minnesota House in the 2023-2024 session, when Democrats ran the state government.

That means she had a leading role in shepherding the many landmark reforms that Dems adopted in that period—an important legacy. Brief 🧵.

There’s no economic plan with tariffs, at least not one relating to national interest or the welfare of the American people. Everyone who goes looking for one, or tries to craft one onto what they see, fails.

As @jamellebouie.net argues, it’s a personal desire for domination, making others losers.

To this day, 31 states and Washington, DC, still have laws on the books that allow for the practice of nonconsensual sterilization of disabled people.—and just two, Alaska and North Carolina, have laws that fully ban it.

“Today, Virginia maintains a far harsher approach to felony disenfranchisement than exists in the rest of the country, let alone the world: Anyone convicted of any felony loses their voting rights for life. The only way to regain those rights is a personal restoration from the governor.”
Virginia Democrats Advance a Measure to End Lifetime Voting Ban. Now It Gets Complicated.
The measure’s fate likely hinges on this fall’s legislative races: Lawmakers will need to pass it again next year. In the meantime, Glenn Youngkin’s harsh restrictions remain in place.
