Skillful with skulls.
My daughter apparently couldn't remember what the Goodybag enemies are called, but it's clear enough what she meant to draw due to the Metal Slime friend.

People keep saying the codenames in Metal Gear Solid sound like Megaman X bosses, so I decided to give them actual designs. Matches the scale of my other X mockups.

Something I've been sitting on for several years that I finally decided to wrap up tonight.

they should make the worlds most fucked up anime where the characters are all stiff awkward cgi models but the vehicles and mecha are beautiful 1980s style hand drawn 2d cel animation

Reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory to my daughter, and the assortment of bad kids is so curious. Two of them map very easily to classic Deadly Sins: Gluttony (Augustus Gloop) and Greed (Veruca Salt). One of them is sort of like Sloth (Mike Teavee).

And then one of them chews gum.

If the universe really were conscious, what do you think its personality would be like? I'm thinking tsundere.

An analogue I’ve noticed between fundamentalist scriptural exegesis and jurispudential originalism as actually practiced in the wild: Both enable a kind of ventriloquism by assuming univocality in the texts they purport to interpret.

Just when you thought a landmark year for historical video game research was over!
For years I wondered what the dead boss in Monster Party for NES was meant to be.

The manual says it's a giant spider. Except it's not. It looks like a lizard.

Well, today I stumbled upon this: bogleech.com/halloween/ha...

The 1980s Gegebo Majuu (ゲゲボ魔獣) toy figurines by Bandai.

The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

Sometimes I wonder how misinfo gets like this gets added to wikis. Why make this stuff up? Is it people trusting their crappy memories? Mistranslating stuff from another language? Trolling? What?

(This is about Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter, and the alt text contains an explanation.)

A book I was reading to my daughter repeated the "fact" that honey never spoils--that Egyptologists found a jar of honey that was still edible after 3,500 years.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but... no. It's not true. You just have to pull out your copy of the journal Bee World, volume 56, from 1975...

Japanese doesn't have a future tense. But English often talks about the future in the same ways as Japanese.

Seconded. That last line hits hard.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

This was my white whale for a long time, but the sourced audio sample during Xenogears' "Blazing Knights" boss fight track was taken from Christian Brando's manslaughter trial in 1990!

In the original SNES release of FF4/2US, in the Misty Cave, if you walk onto this bridge from the north side, you can walk around on the two squares to the left and right that are supposed to be beneath the bridge.

I've long said that Jim Carrey actually did a good job playing The Joker. It's just too bad he was cast as The Riddler.

But watching 60s Batman has me rethinking it. Carrey was channeling Frank Gorshin's portrayal of The Riddler from the 60s.

60s Batman made me want to revisit the classic Evil Overlord list, and I got a chuckle at how one of them would be utterly baffling to someone 10 years younger.
