Been away from here for a while, tired of the constant flow of near-identical US political comment and photos of men in (and out of) their underwear, neither of which hold any interest for me. Great to engage with some lovely people again. I wish you well.

Something the BBC has forgotten.
If one person claims it's raining and another insists it's sunny, the media's job isn't to give them equal airtime-it's to check the facts and report the truth.

This. Absolutely. The BBC must be held to the terms of its Charter which requires it to entertain and to inform.
One thing Labour should be quite urgently addressing is to end the Tory regime at the BBC. They can’t afford to be magnanimous in this political environment

I’m so glad that I’m old enough to have received the kind of education which immediately made me think “I’m almost sure I know what a Latinist is but I’d better check.”
thinking about the time I referred to myself as a Latinist and some random guy came in with 'actually the term is latina' and anyway that's when I deleted my mastodon account
