“It lacks the humility to acknowledge uncertainty.” Up to 48% of the time, models are hallucinating. WHY is there an insistence on integrating in schools?!

“'Like students facing hard exam questions, large language models sometimes guess when uncertain, producing plausible yet incorrect statements instead of admitting uncertainty,' the researchers wrote in the paper. 'Such ‘hallucinations’ persist even in state-of-the-art systems and undermine trust.'”

OpenAI admits AI hallucinations are mathematically inevitable, not just engineering flaws
In a landmark study, OpenAI researchers reveal that large language models will always produce plausible but false outputs, even with perfect data, due to fundamental statistical and computational limi...

“AI isn’t magic; it’s a pyramid scheme of human labor.”

Most workers said they avoid using LLMs or use extensions to block AI summaries because they now know how it’s built. Many also discourage their family and friends from using it, for the same reason.

In the not so recent past, you could actually tell students, “don’t use Google Translate” (or similar), and it was actually manageable. Telling them “don’t use AI” is useless, because tech companies have laced everything with it and we’re all ingesting it like we once ingested BPA

I got the complaint in the horrific OpenAI self harm case the the NY Times reported today

This is way way worse even than the NYT article makes it out to be

OpenAI absolutely deserves to be run out of business

The big take-away is that Eh-Aye is killing translation jobs *not* because it's nearly as good as a human (who possesses *actual* intelligence and understanding), but because the Bosses have decided that this is how it's going to be (to further enrich themselves at the expense of everyone else).
Since 2023, translators and interpreters have seen work dry up, rates plummet and their jobs reduced to editing AI-generated output. Some are leaving the field, others are considering bankruptcy. All despite any major upgrade in translation quality.

This is how AI is killing translation work:
AI Killed My Job: Translators
Few industries have been hit by AI as hard as translation. Rates are plummeting. Work is drying up. Translators are considering abandoning the field, or bankruptcy. These are their stories.

This suggests that "AI" is as much a cultural shift as it is a technological one—the hype-shrouded AI boom has given managers encouragement and cover to break previous norms and standards, even if it means a loss in quality. As the boom appears to give way to a bust, that may be all the clearer.
