This is quite the essay on MAGA Christianity, an insider lament about things I’ve observed from the outside, and things I didn’t know about.

I’m not Christian, but I find some things admirable about Christianity, and think it’s a shame how the dominant form of US Christianity has inverted them.

It gets lost in the shuffle, but the Speaker of the House is someone who, by all rights, should’ve had his career ended a decade ago by a Shreveport TV news investigative team.
Fond memories of that time Mike Johnson was president of a local law school that never opened its doors, in part because it was attached to a Baptist college that was losing its accreditation, and in part because it was always a scam from the start
Mike Johnson -- who is, yes, theoretically a lawyer -- has not had a chance to look at the American Constitution because he's been very busy lately, folks, he just can't see everything, gosh, how is he supposed to know if it's wrong that the president called for the execution of congress members?

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

media coverage of this is already as pathetic as you might expect, usually failing to mention:

the FCC has no authority over the UK's BBC

the scandal was created by right wing media

the year-old BBC edits fall outside limits of UK defamation law

PBC, NPR never aired the documentary
Trump's censor in chief at the FCC, Brendan Carr, just sent a letter to the heads of BBC, NPR and PBS informing them he's launching a "news distortion" probe into the BBC's editing of a documentary on Trump's Jan. 6 activities.

So what’s happening here is that Jim Comey is asking for a bill of particulars to clarify his alleged illegal acts, as the government apparently has been ambiguous about the charges.

I have not seen a case this jacked up by the prosecution since I was in misdemeanor traffic court.
Oh PLEASE let the case against Jim Comey fall apart because of Ted Cruz.

I had forgotten the note — from Patrick Reardon’s classic takedown of “Devil in the White City” — that Larson claimed Truman Capote as an inspiration. “In Cold Blood” has influenced so many “nonfiction” writers to … make up details they can’t fill in with facts. A terrible legacy.

It depends on the particular kind of fuckmuppetry.
