Simultaneously heartbroken and inspired to witness what's unfolding in my former hometown this week. On one side are the horrific accounts of abductions and abuse amid this unconstitutional invasion and occupation, and on the other are incredible stories of community solidarity. Bear down, Chicago.
Michigan Avenue right now.

I was yesterday years old when I learned about Marcus Garvey’s deportation to Jamaica after he was targeted by the US government as a founder of the United Negro Improvement Association.

At its peak, the UNIA had a membership of 4 million worldwide fighting for the freedom of Black people.

@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com You referenced Trump, taking the oath of Office and putting his hand on the Bible. Look at the pictures he never touched the Bible. He never put his hand on the Bible. Melania held the Bible. He stood next to it.

Are your piggy banks all nice and plump? Because Trump plans to hit Canada and Mexico with 25% tariffs tomorrow - just as he promised!

Since WE, the 🇺🇸 tax payers, will be footing that bill, let's look at the breadth of goods imported from these two countries.

Those egggggggs, though. 🙄

I hope this is still Canada’s plan. (Who knew the biggest peanut-butter producing plant in the world is a Jif plant in Lexington, KY?)
If Trump slaps a 25% tariff on Canadian goods coming to the US, Canadians have a revenge tariff plan to cause pain--in red states. "Orange juice from Florida. Whiskey from Tennessee. Peanut butter from Kentucky." Canada plays hardball. What a concept. 🎁 www.nytimes.com/2025/01/17/w...
Canada Prepares for Trump Tariff Threat With Three-Stage Plan (Gift Article)
Canadian officials are preparing retaliatory measures if the new U.S. administration imposes tariffs on Canadian imports.

Reminder: Tariffs aren't paid by other countries.

They're eventually paid by us at the check out line.

The tariffs Trump is unleashing tomorrow on Mexico, Canada, and China — our biggest trading partners — are estimated to cost households an extra $1,250 annually.
