A clean, unavoidable contrast. Individuals on one side, food on the other. No euphemisms, no loopholes, no moral gymnastics. This meme challenges the stories we tell ourselves and invites a quieter, more honest way of living, eating, and choosing compassion over habit.

Backyard chicken programs are a risks to animals & public health. As Kaitlyn Mitchell of Animal Justice warns, backyard hens can spread avian flu, & too often can’t access proper vet care 🐔

The #UrbanHensTO project should stay closed for good!
Want a backyard chicken? For the foreseeable future, city says forget it
The UrbanHensTO pilot program was paused in 2023 over avian flu concerns and will remain so until further notice, says the city

One way you could read this chart: Animal ag is so inefficient—and it comes at an unthinkable moral cost, AND it might start the next pandemic—that it would be the definition of lunacy to squander global carbon budgets to produce an ever-greater share of our food this way

This weekend, dozens of shoppers experienced just a fraction of what hens in Sobeys' supply chain endure every day.

80% of their eggs still come from caged hens, despite originally promising to go cage-free by 2025 🐔

Excellent thread. That said, "climate crisis" needs a rebranding. People still think of it in terms of decades, weather events, glaciers melting & polar bears dying. Something much darker, immediate, & existentially threatening is taking place: the very foundation of our ecosystem is collapsing.
‘Half the tree of life’: ecologists’ horror as nature reserves are emptied of insects
A new point in history has been reached, entomologists say, as climate-led species’ collapse moves up the food chain even in supposedly protected regions free of pesticides

Animals raised for food are born into violence. From factory farms to slaughterhouses, their lives are marked by suffering, confinement, and early death. Choosing to eat their bodies—no matter how normalized—participates in a system built on domination and cruelty. #animalrights

My book reviewed in @forbes.com.

"This is not only the best book I’ve read this year but it’s the best book I’ve ever read about the morality of ethical veganism and of animal rights. It is so compelling, so coherent, and so crammed full of relevant information...."

A brilliantly argued dismantling of Michael Pollan & other supporters of the meat economy who lie to the public by claiming that we can have our meat and our morals, too.

Repulsed by latest cover/cover story in #NationalGeographic. Glorifying use of engineered animal organs as spare parts for people, selling the story w/ image of a baby pig being cuddled by person in surgical garb. At NatGeo animals are still commodities. Slug should be "Anti-Science," not "Science."
