I don’t confuse “AM” and “PM” anymore since I learned that they stand for “after midnight” and “pefore midnight”

This may seem cute but if you do this too much the cyclists may become reliant on cars feeding them, disrupting the delicate roadway ecosystem

The positive thing about AI tooling going mainstream and setting expectations high (e.g. "anyone can build software with AI") is that a large group will learn what us devs know already:

Creating good software is hard and it's hard to explain to outsiders in a way they understand

What a story from Steve Yegge from his time at Google, back in the day:

Using a "blind" and unbiased process, interviewers would not have hired most colleagues who were actually at the company!

Food for thought on how building a soild hiring process remains tough

Oh boy. In a week, on 15 July, some startup will claim they launched the "first-ever superintelligent AI Engineer" and how it passes the PE (Professional Engineering Certification) exam at 81%.

In reality: one more agent with hyperbolic claims.

Same BS as before.

An MIT study of 54 participants found ChatGPT users had lower brain activity, weaker memory, and less creativity than Google or unaided writers.

ChatGPT users brain activity declined over time, relied on copy-paste, and couldn’t recall what they wrote.

The brain is a muscle, use it or lose it.
ChatGPT's Impact On Our Brains According to an MIT Study
The study, from MIT Lab scholars, measured the brain activity of subjects writing SAT essays with and without ChatGPT.

Many in tech value brutal honesty, but people often focus more on the brutality than the honesty, making them defensive. Instead, aim to be “direct yet kind.” Start with curiosity and a desire to help before offering criticism.

When others see empathy in your words, your feedback is more effective.

If your business interests depend on innovation in the industry stagnating - or innovation only allowed to come from *your* company or startup - then you are in the wrong industry, sorry

Small teams doing novel things, and pushing the industry forward is how tech has always gone
