people complain a lot about “performative” kindness and “virtue signaling” but it straight up IS better than performative cruelty and malice signaling. It’s not as good as genuine kindness and virtue, but it IS better than the bad stuff

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

This is the collective action problem. If no one else is fighting, it makes no sense for an individual to fight, because they expect to pay a high price and ultimately lose
When civil society institutions — big law firms, Ivy League institutions — cave to Trump rather than fight what appear to be illegal demands, do they expect him to be satisfied and stop? Do they believe others should step in and fight where they have not?

This power should return to Congress and should not be in the office of the President

I kind of like seeing people bid farewell to tiktok on tiktok. It's closure, ya know? We never held a funeral for Twitter. Maybe that would have helped.

When I complained to Theodore Sturgeon about trouble I was having with a scene, he looked at me and said,

"I give you permission to do it wrong."

Most liberating thing I ever heard.

Watching the 2002 Count of Monte Cristo. I forgot that in this version Mondego read the letter from Napoleon and knew it was treasonous. But when confronted by Dantes he says he turned him in because of jealousy. Dude! Just say you turned him in because he's a traitor!
