Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor first responders who run into harms way when everyone is running out. May we carry forward their legacy by fighting for a safer, more secure, more united New Mexico and nation.

RFK Jr. rolled out that old chestnut again about how healthy Americans were in the 60’s, so here’s a fact check.

In 1965:

-42% of American adults smoked; it’s 11% now.

-The infant morality rate was 24.7/1000; it’s 5.6/1000 now.

-Overall life expectancy was 70 years; it's about 77 years now.

Very well explained and worth the read. The whole thread
I’m sorry for the long post but a lot of you have followed me for a long time, since 2016 when I was one of the first to repeatedly call out Trump for being a Russian asset.

I don’t know how else to say this, as a person who has studied cults (wrote a bestseller about it) and totalitarian states.

The Atlantic wins the ASME 2025 Best Cover Award for our October 2024 issue.

Inspired by the visual language of old Ray Bradbury and Stephen King paperbacks, Justin Metz created this illustration—among the only covers without a headline or typography in our history. https://theatln.tc/o0BM860L

Update: the Trump administration has proposed cutting the National Park System by $900 million, about one third of its budget.
Please read/share if you love your national parks!
New from @pamherd.bsky.social & me: A DOGEr is now running the National Park Service.

They were already short of employees to manage record crowds. DOGE has cut 13% and wants to cut 30%.

The HHS website covering HIPAA and reproductive health information has been taken down. 🤰

That’s nice but the ABA has an overview of HIPAA rules around reproductive health data.

HIPAA remains the law of the land. Laws are set by Congress, not whiny incels.
Just Say No! HIPAA and Requests for Reproductive Health Information
On April 22, 2024, the Office of Civil Rights issued a Final Rule titled HIPAA Privacy Rule to Support Reproductive Health Care Privacy (2024 Final Privacy Rule).

But, of course. Also… who the f%k are these people?!
In his ethics filing, RFK Jr. says he will keep receiving a 10% cut of contingency fees in vaccine litigation against Merck.

The deal has made him over $2 million so far.

As HHS Secretary, Kennedy will have substantial authority over Merck, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world.

The usual suspects are out there yelling "There are 23 million government workers! Fire most of them!" No awareness that most work for local governments, and most of *them* are schoolteachers. Federal employment hasn't grown since the 1950s
