Born #OTD in 1837, the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes, Joseph Bell, JP, DL, FRCSE (2 Dec 1837 – 4 Oct 1911). Had Arthur Conan Doyle never met Bell in 1877, or served as his clerk at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, there likely never would have been a Sherlock Holmes. Here’s to Joe Bell!
