Today in Hell Yes, research: Once again, the data show there is no such thing as an autism epidemic, just better detection. Anyone who claims otherwise—especially if positioning themselves as an a autism research advocate—deserves severe and profound side-eyes.

Please read, this is important. Sorry it’s long.

Trump’s move to have Elon Musk step aside wasn’t a retreat. It was a distraction. With Musk’s name out of the headlines, many assumed the controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) had quietly ended. It hasn’t. It’s just changed hands.

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty.

People freaking out about autism are fucking hilarious. Bro I have been autistic my whole life and I am fine, however I would've done better if these freaks would've treated me more compassionately instead of creating problems where there doesn't need to be, they could educate themselves about it

It’s just mindblowing and infuriating that we still don’t have any actual contempt orders against this administration. Judges, you have to enforce your orders.

Fuck. Fuckfuckfuck.
This is absolutely terrible news.

With the shifting regulatory climate (i.e., antivax ratfuckery), Moderna has withdrawn their application for their eagerly anticipated COVID-flu combo vaccine. This vaccine offered better protection than getting each shot separately.

📈XFG and/or NB.1.8.1 will likely drive a soon-to-start summer wave in this new forecast. XFG is far ahead in the New York region, we will see shortly if it is able to overcome their steep case decline.

The state of Georgia is using the body of a brain-dead woman as an incubator. Because she was 9 weeks pregnant when she died, and their abortion ban is from about 6 weeks, they are sustaining her on life support, without input from her family, until 32 weeks of gestation. A true dystopian nightmare.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions about what it really means for a vaccine trial to be “placebo-controlled” - and how that differs from other control groups.

It’s a great question, and clarity here really matters.
Let’s break it down.

Neurodiversity is biodiversity. We need neutral, de-pathologizing terms for the natural variations that benefit each species, e.g. identification vs. diagnosis, traits vs. symptoms, neurotype vs disorder.
I have completely lost patience with deficit/medical model language in describing autistic traits. Why can't the language be neutral? Why can't we describe eye contact as "inconsistent" rather than "poor"?
