Just donated to @peggyflanagan.bsky.social's campaign. I should have done it sooner, for many other positive reasons. But this was a good reminder.

Also remembering that something similar happened with WSCO and Jerry Trooien. Amusingly, Bill Hosko was involved in both takeovers.

Feels like a missed opportunity to tie this to your story about district councils. Crockarell and his cronies destroyed the downtown District Council over a couple elections, and proceeded to use it to shut down anything he didn't like. Took them years to recover.

fwiw, I think a silver lining in Her's win is that the city council has an opportunity to restore the balance of power and working relationship with the mayor's office. They're no longer the "new kids" and have been through the grinder a couple of times to know what they need to fight for.

I remember the sickening feeling of seeing Thune/Hosko and Hosko/Thune ballots in our race, and wondering who would make those choices. You can't discount the values of name recognition and known quantities.
