This Wood Sandpiper has been feeding on floating weed on the top res @bowintersett2.bsky.social for the last few days. Still present this morning off the north bank. An eclipse drake Red Crested Pochard is on the Country Park

Because of the dry conditions fungi are still in short supply at Haw Park but I spotted Polyporus tuberaster today. This is a new species for the Wintersett list. Pores are visible on the insert. @stevied131.bsky.social

The second fungal species added to the Wintersett list today was Pleurotus cornucopiae (Branched Oyster). This dried-up specimen was on fallen wood very near the main car-park. @stevied131.bsky.social @petesmithatwsett.bsky.social

Helvella acetabulum (Vinegar Cup) appears in spring at Wintersett, growing beneath hawthorns on the edge of a track. The fungus gets its name because it is shaped like a cup used by the Romans for holding vinegar. @stevied131.bsky.social

An unlikely pair of swans on the Low Lake. #Wintersett this morning. The Whooper Swan has been present all winter & though it can fly it may not be fully fit for a trip back to Iceland, we’ll see.
