It's like what I love saying about tech ceos not understanding actual infrastructure. This includes people who do things like making sure your drinking water doesn't have arsenic in it, and the thing about the guy who does that is that he is the ONLY one doing it.
It is not in fact easy for highly specialized government workers in roles like “proscribed fire management and managing sled dog kennels” to find new jobs, as this piece points out

If you look at the history of commissaries and post exchanges in the U.S. military, one of the main purposes of establishing these systems was to protect troops and their families from being gouged by post traders and other private entities. This goes all the way back to the 19th century!
