I think I'd like to get into shortwave radio, ham radio or whatever but it seems so expensive to get the equipment and basically impossible to set up in an apartment setting, maaaaybe there's a flexible antenna that I could run atop the crown molding? but it just seems so expensive

Electronics folks: Is a usb-C soldering iron (pine64) workable? I can’t decide between that and a Harbor Freight starter kit to start building amateur radio antennas (so not super detail work).

The Battleship IOWA Amateur Radio Association (BIARA) and the IOWA’s Innovation, Engineering and Technology Team (IET) will activate the ship’s original NEPM Navy call sign on December 7 and 8, 2024. Hours of operation both days are expected to be from 0700 PST (1500 UTC) to 1700 PST (0100 UTC).

So as I take another run at learning #morsecode, a big problem for me is my ability to focus/concentrate for any length of time. After too short of awhile, my mind starts to wander and my copy goes, “pffft”.
I know, I know: practice, practice, practice.

I have built a few ham radio kits over the years, including an Elecraft K2. That's a LOT of solder joints to get right! The following soldering tutorial by Tom Hammond, N0SS (SK) was a tremendous help to me getting started.
