Alexandria Democratic Committee's Democrats to Go Co-chair, Resolutions Committee member, recipient of 8th Congressional District’s 2024 Grassroots Award
It was great to help Democrats as they picked their candidate for HD-17 today! Everyone agreed that four high quality people stepped up on VERY short notice to run.
HD-17 voting is underway! We have a great group of volunteers staffing sites. If you live in HD-17, come out & vote TODAY until 5 PM at any of the 3 locations:

- Franconia Governmental Center

- Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Alexandria

- Hotel Belvoir Springfield

No surprise. Republicans will run candidates in upcoming elections. Just because Democrats won big this year doesn’t mean we’ll win next time. Keep working
Virginia House of Delegates Republicans decided to stick with Terry Kilgore as leader

He had faced a challenge from Mike Cherry

Kilgore faces a tough job as they are down to 36 seats and little hope of winning majority in 2027

So true. Virginia votes every year, but for different offices and political environments. @chaznuttycombe.bsky.social seems to have sorted this out better than the others.
It will be interesting to see what pollsters do in 2026

Whether they try to model more for the electorate that came out in 2025

In all likelihood it will not look like 2024 or 2022

Part of challenge in polling (and campaigns) is to focus on current environment and not past one
This isn't 20/20 hindsight, as some of us (@chaznuttycombe.bsky.social @samshirazi.bsky.social etc.) called it out *at the time*; should have been obvious that the 2025 VA electorate wouldn't be like 2021. Just bizarre that any pollster weighted their poll that way. bluevirginia.us/2025/11/frid...

Virginians I canvass vote for candidates of different races, ethnicities, and religions other than their own. We get the best candidates as a result.
Under appreciated strength of Black representation in Northern Virginia

From Spotsylvania to Fairfax border along I-95 will all be represented by Black delegates in House

Overall 10% of entire House will be Black delegates from NOVA

Region more diverse than often portrayed

Depending on how far back you go, good idea to consider air quotes around “Democrats“
1961 was the last Virginia gubernatorial election under the Byrd Machine, before the 24th amendment ended poll taxes.

In other words, Abigail has the biggest win for any Democrat running for governor, since black people could vote again.

Arguably the biggest win for any Dem in a free election.
Fun facts

Abigail Spanberger got biggest win for a Dem in Virginia Governor election since 1961

Ghazala Hashmi got biggest win for Dem in Virginia Lt. Governor election since 1965

Virginia Dems won most seats in Virginia House of Delegates since 1987

After big election win, party in power thinks it was total endorsement of world view

Dems thought it after 2020

GOP thought it after 2024

Reality is Americans have lot of different views

Many voters lend support temporarily

Good for both parties to keep that in mind

If you canvass for @abigailspanberger.com and @guzman4virginia.bsky.social the weather will always be like this 😃 (usually)

I’m signed up to canvass this Saturday for @guzman4virginia.bsky.social! Join me or canvass Sunday, your choice 🚀
I was out knocking doors today — and I’m so encouraged by what I heard. Voters are ready for someone who’ll fight for them — not for billionaires or corporate interests. I’m in this to deliver for Virginia families. #VA22 #VoteGuzman

I’m working on my selfie skills here with Sen. Kannan Srinivasan and his wife, as well as Del. JJ Singh at JJ’s swearing in today. It was a great event (aside from my photography 🤣. Their victories protected our majorities!

It was great to hear @spanbergerforva.bsky.social ‘s plans to win her race for governor in Alexandria last night. We appreciate her call for us to support Democrats to Go and Dining for Delegates!

I usually highlight canvassing, but thought this sunrise would be good for my first post here.
