‘This is not comedy! Pay attention’: from Cabaret to Trump rallies, why does audience laughter feel so sinister?
Americans are struggling to reconcile Trump’s campness and cruelty – but comedy has always been a tool for authoritarians

Spot on, @andrewwilkiemp.bsky.social.

Mr Dutton’s proposed cuts to the APS will see us return to the poor outcomes seen under last govt, where veterans waited over a year just to have their claims even assigned to a reviewer, let alone approved.

By virtue of Grace Tame blowing up my weekend, I was reminded, once again, that there is a sizable portion of adults out there deeply upset by swear words and deeply unconcerned about the state of democracy and the planet.

I'm all for manners, but have some fucking perspective, please.

For the love of God, if I see one more ',grow your own food' hot take.

Sure, for occasional fresh herbs or a few veggies.

Nobody is growing to their entire caloric intake in an apartment or on a balcony.

1. There have been plenty of debates about whether or not Trump and his circle are fascists. In this column, I argue that the debate solves nothing. What we’re seeing is a reversion to the default state of politics in centralised societies: autocratic tyranny. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The Myth of the Secret Genius
From Elon Musk to Elizabeth Holmes and Donald Trump, many very rich people are effective at convincing us of a myth: they're secretly a genius, and you're just too dumb to understand. Are they right?

😧😠
'Political reporter' Isobel Roe just delivered an infomercial for the Coalition's energy policy on ABC 'News Radio'.

This followed a 'report on the rise of antisemitism in Australia' which consisted largely of a monologue by Peter Dutton.

Then it was a gushing welcome to LNP fundraiser Hugh Marks.
