The 10 yo decided he wants to try Little League baseball this year and I am way out of my depth 😅

Them: Any fun plans this weekend!?

Me: I have preteens, I’m basically just a chauffeur at this point…

I do not envy the people making the decision on school closures.

We woke up to dry roads and laughed at the closure notice, but now I’m watching snow slowly accumulate and thinking they probably got this one right.

#exevangelical problems

My spouse said “you’re like a reverse Samson” after I broke our icecream scoop on the same day I drastically chopped my hair.

We then had to explain the Bible story to our kids because they had no idea why we were both laughing so hard.

The 12yo broke his pinky finger playing basketball in PE. Come to find out both his father and grandfather broke their fingers the exact same way.

It’s apparently some sort of family curse… he shares a middle name with them both.

Introduced the 9 yo to The Mountain Goats and now he’s borderline concerned about my mental health…

To be fair, he’s not entirely wrong. I just normally hide it a little better 😅

“We are showered every day with gifts, but they are not meant for us to keep. Their life is in their movement, the inhale and exhale of our shared breath. Our work and our joy is to pass along the gift and to trust that what we put out into the universe will always come back”

I started reading “Braiding Sweetgrass” this week and it’s truly one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read. The author, Robin Wall Kimmerer, weaves together Indigenous traditions and her family stories with botany and science. It’s philosophical and thought provoking and I love it ❤️

Teaching my kids about small acts of resistance and finding joy in troubling times.

No school today, so we went to our public library to check out some new books and a board game. Then they convinced me to get donuts at local mom and pop shop.

Joy is resistance ❤️

9yo watching Nat Geo documentary where scientists are putting tracker “backpacks” on sea turtles:

“Yay! Franklin goes to school!” 😂

Time and again we warned that Project 2025 was the Trump agenda. And time and again the corporate media regurgitated Donald Trump’s lie that it wasn’t. Regardless of whether it was a deliberate choice or an epic failure of journalism it’s abundantly clear that, going forward, we’re on our own.

Dear Ministers in America,

Bishop Budde did something awe-inspiring, something sadly rare, and something you are also capable of doing.

Sunday is here.

May you greet it with courage.

On this episode of #adhdproblems

I scheduled a dr appt to request ADHD medication and then completely forgot to bring it up because I got sidetracked discussing a complete different concern.

Anyone have an over/under on my chances of remembering at the follow up appt? 😅

Every year I’m convinced January is actually at least 213 days long.

And yet somehow I’m still surprised by this feeling.

Every. Single. Year.

The heart shaped Lover album and cardigan are adorable. But what I really need right about now is the ability to listen to Reputation Taylor’s Version 😩

If you want to see the opposite of “obeying in advance,” here it is. Remarkable bravery by Reverend Budde.
Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde to Trump: "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender people in Democratic, Republican, and independent families, some who fear for their lives ... and the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals"

Everyone should give this a read
Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Bear with me for a second while I try to explain.

The 9 yo had to do an “I have a dream” assignment yesterday. He told his class his dream is for cleaner energy so the world can stop climate change.

Moments like this show me the kids are alright, and they can inspire us to do better too. We have to continue the fight and keep moving forward.

An apt time to purchase more banned books and reread some of my favorites, starting with Parable of the Sower.

Any of my lovely #booksky friends have other recommendations?

A reminder that in 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote that “the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income.”

Nearly 60 years later and our country’s wealth disparity has only grown exponentially worse.

We are in an oligarchy.

I really resonate with the person who said the TikTok ban feels like a virtual burning of the Library of Alexandria.

It probably seems dramatic to anyone who never experienced the communities that were built there, but damn I’m going to miss it.
