Convincing you to read my novel with the first sentence (okay, two, in order to make a neater cutoff!) Share yours if you want.

This is from THE INK WITCH.

You Gotta Eat by @margareteby.bsky.social. This is amazing! A cookbook for very simple recipes that take almost no time or money but still feel like a finished meal. Everyone should just be issued this in their teens. It has opened my eyes to the possibilities of bean salad.

Rodeo Hawkins and the Daughters of Mayhem by John Claude Bemis and @nicolemillo.bsky.social (middle grade graphic novel.) A wild multiverse adventure about rebel kids taking on morally compromised paladins; the art and the tech/magic mix give it a bit of a Nimona vibe. Read it!

Congrats to the DePaul University Barnes & Noble in Chicago for having the GREAT TASTE to carry books from the COOL SQUAD! @bitterkarella.bsky.social @inkybeast.bsky.social

Man, just when you think Newsom couldn't be any more disappointing.

Read: Flip by @ngoziu.com. A wonderful take on the Freaky Friday concept. If you loved Bunt!, you should check this one out! If you haven't read Bunt!, you should read Bunt! too, it's great.

Read: The Woman Dies by Aoko Matsuda. Short, punchy little essays/short stories/bizarre combinations of the two. Most of them are about feminism, a lot of them are really surreal, probably more than half are both. Hard to explain, you really have to read it (it's quick.) #books #booksky

For anyone in the Milwaukee area, I'll be doing a book launch for The Ink Witch at @lionstoothmke.com tomorrow from 6:00-7:30! It's a really charming bookstore which focuses on graphic novels but has lot of other stuff too. Come on by!

TIL that "butthole" was youth slang in 1947, or Bob Montana thought it was, and it was considered innocent enough to print in the newspaper funnies.

Look what came in the mail yesterday! @bitterkarella.bsky.social and I go way back to the Internet old days, so it's kind of amazing we now both have books out in the same month. I'm excited to finally read it!

I just read Rebis and holy crap you GOTTA read this, you just GOTTA. It's amazing and affirming and the art is GORGEOUS.

I just read The Staircase in the Woods by @chuckwendig.bsky.social and OH MAN. Don't start this one until you have no other obligations for however long it takes you to finish a book.
June 23, 2025 at 10:54 PM
I just finished Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd by @delilahsdawson.bsky.social, a D&D book that really captures the feel of "actual party of PCs with players behind them" in the same way Honor Among Thieves did. Lots of fun for D&D fans, especially if you've played the module before.

I picked Hard Reboot by @djangowexler.bsky.social from the Harvard sale a while back (these are always great!) Crazy far-future Earth, giant mecha battles, and an adorable love story, all in only teeny novella, super worth checking out.

Kya: Dark Lineage! This one needs a remaster. It's sort of an adventure platformer with brawler elements and the main character is just so wonderfully floppy; she feels like a more controllable Octodad. Of course it ended on a cliffhanger and disappeared forever.

My ARCs of The Ink Witch arrived today!

I'm really excited for people to read this story of an adventurous trans girl going on a magical road trip to save her mom. It's coming out in September!

Oh, I forget to show the cover, here you go. Hopefully the whole brain-hijacking thing doesn't actually work because if it did, looking at this would be super bad!

I read the first volume of Crowded by @xtop.bsky.social with amazing art by @brandtandstein.com and it was SO MUCH FUN. It's the near future and there's a woman who's so insufferable the world crowdfunds her assassination, so she hires the lowest-rated bodyguard on the bodyguard app. It rocks!

Happy publication day to The Puzzling Fate of Millicent Graves by @inkybeast.bsky.social - a spooky middle grade GN about a girl who discovers magic puzzles that can rearrange people's lives. This concept is killer and I can't wait for my copy to arrive!
May 20, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Just finished Overgrowth by @seananmcguire.bsky.social! A unique twist on alien-invasion-pod-people stories, told from the pod person's POV. A compelling mixture of campy sci-fi and grim horror (seriously, it's GRIM, be ready for like, Pet Semetary levels of "oh my god, it's going there.")
May 20, 2025 at 12:19 AM
I just read Squad by @maggietokudahall.bsky.social and @lisasterle.bsky.social. I think this one is pretty widely known already, but if you haven't read it, you should. It's Mean Girls but also they're a werewolf pack, it's awesome.

The average American has three friends.

Just read: A Wizard of Earthsea, the graphic novel adaptation. This is one of the LeGuin books I actually hadn't read before - what a treat of a story, and beautiful art by Fred Fordham. Look at that cover!

Here's a graphic I found about where the 50501 / #Indivisible protests are happening in #Milwaukee. I really like this concept - super visible, spread out enough that everyone can get to it, and you're cleaning up, too! I'm going to bring my trash grabber arm.
