One modern thing that gets me cranky is the phenomenon of making random changes and referring to it as a "refresh." It's never an improvement, or they could call it an improvement. It's just screwing with what you're used to for the sake of it, all packaged with a gross buzzword.

You Gotta Eat by @margareteby.bsky.social. This is amazing! A cookbook for very simple recipes that take almost no time or money but still feel like a finished meal. Everyone should just be issued this in their teens. It has opened my eyes to the possibilities of bean salad.

My phone has these obnoxious text auto-response prompts which you can't turn off, and it's awful. Except! I discovered that they go away if you swear. So now I have to swear in every conversation to drive them off, like a superstitious peasant invoking a protective charm. Thanks a heap, technology.

One thing I loved about Solar Opposites is that even though it had the modern short seasons it still did absolutely wild Halloween and Christmas specials. Just going all out.
You know what is a weird thing I miss about regular TV seasons?
Obligatory seasonal holiday episodes.
Like, no one dropping 8 episodes in July is going to give you an unhinged Halloween ep, a totally inappropriate murder on Christmas ep, and probably some weird Valentine's Day nonsense.

One thing I loved about Solar Opposites is that even though it had the modern short seasons it still did absolutely wild Halloween and Christmas specials. Just going all out.
I just read Jaws for the first time (I haven't seen the movie, either) and it's one of those books that's very readable without being at that good. I mean it's a real page-turner, it's just a very 70s Guy novel and more of it is devoted to Ellen Brody's affair than to the actual shark hunt.

Everyone's focusing on the 'there were no children's hospitals' part of this (which is of course wrong), but how ignorant do you have to be to think kids didn't get sick? Buddy, look up how many children any historical figure had and notice how they give two numbers and the second one is smaller.

It's always great to give to your local food bank, but with benefits running out soon it's about to be especially important. Please give them something if you can! (Even though buying food feels more satisfying, I'm told just giving money is actually much more effective.)

I saw Straw Hat flags at No Kings on Saturday! As someone who's been following the series since before its US debut, it was really cool to see its values directed towards real-world ends.
A big reason why One Piece has become such a popular symbol of modern protest and resistance isn't just because Luffy topples dictators and rancid monarchies, but due to the way he effectively rallies the collective hope of the downtrodden. It's not only a story about him. It's a story about YOU.
